I consulted Dr. Peter Dobias when my cat Finnigan was very sick. He had been vomiting several times a day for several weeks by this time, and my traditional vet was unable to find the problem. Finnigan had undergone numerous tests, including several x-rays and blood work.
The advice given by the traditional vet was to either put him on a dose of steroids or have him undergo exploratory surgery, getting a snip of the bowel for testing, in the process. This just seemed too severe, and I did not want to put my 15-year-old cat through this, knowing that we still might end up with more questions than solutions, as well the possibility of making him weaker rather than stronger. I felt as though my cat had cancer, and the impression I was getting was 'it’s only a matter of time.'
When I found Dr. Dobias, his gentle approach and non-clinical environment was a great relief to both me and Finnigan!
Dr. Dobias prescribed supplements to aid Finnigan’s organs and immune system as well as a homeopathic treatment, chosen with care and specifically for him at that time. Within a short time – probably a couple weeks – Finnigan began to brighten up and only vomited once or twice a week. Over the months, after several in-depth talks with Dr. Dobias, we have altered the remedies according to his symptoms, and he has continually improved. It has been about a year since he has vomited for unknown reasons (other than eating something he shouldn't have!), and he looks and behaves like a cat half his age!
A truly unique and amazing aspect of the care that I have received from Dr. Dobias has been his way of linking the wellness of the human with the wellness of the animal. I cannot begin to describe how transforming this has been for me. At times, I’ve been prescribed the same or a similar remedy as Finnigan, and we have grown and healed together as a result. I feel more energetically and emotionally connected to my feline friend and within myself as well. Dr. Dobias' approach is loving, knowledgeable, and reaches levels of healing that are subtle yet highly effective. The more I am willing to discover about myself during our consultations, the more I am able to help Finnigan. There's a very special bond between humans and their pets, and I am so happy that I’m now aware and able to tap into it, thanks to Dr. Dobias.

Thank you for doing a fantastic job! Being a veterinarian you are in a prime position to advocate and educate people who actually love their dogs. So many of us are ignorant because we have been told differently and trusted equally ignorant trainers and professionals that we thought were more knowledgeable and experienced than ourselves. When I adopted a female shepherd cross, she was approximately 2 years old.
A couple of weeks later, I discovered that she was severely incontinent. I was also concerned about the deep psychological trauma she had suffered. I spent several weeks seeking solutions from traditional veterinary medicine with absolutely no satisfaction.
Every traditional veterinarian that I consulted (of which there were four) isolated her incontinence as a discrete symptom and prescribed the female hormone, diethylstilbestrol, FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. I need not comment on the adverse research findings in humans after only small, short-term doses. Her trauma was dismissed as untreatable, its possible connection to incontinence was ridiculed, and any diet other than commercial kibble was frowned upon. Needless to say, I was frustrated and depressed. A friend recommended veterinary homeopathy, about which I knew nothing. I went to see Dr. Peter Dobias.
What a difference! It was a pleasure to converse with a doctor who saw the whole animal, who recognized the deep-seated nature of her trauma and its impact on her physical body and who saw the possible connection to her incontinence. Nine months after consulting him, my dog was no longer incontinent and she was generally a more confident dog. When she relapsed 3 months later, the remedy was adjusted to fit the now-changed holistic picture, and then again 3 months later. My dog has now been incontinent-free for 5 years and her confident well-being shines through her coat and her eyes. She owes most of it to the persistent dedication of a fine homeopathic veterinarian.
I cannot pretend to know what he did. It is sufficient to know that it was benign and effective over the long term with respect to her whole being. It is the only approach to health that makes any sense to me - especially for a dog whose physical symptoms had been so traumatic with such far-reaching psychological (and, if you will permit me, 'spiritual') consequences. It should be self-evident that all homeopathic veterinarians are also traditionally trained and call upon those skills when necessary.
